Chuck Eats KC - March 2022

Welcome to the free version of the Chuck Eats KC newsletter. I publish a free version of my newsletter at least once a month. More free content is in the works, as I’m able to get out to restaurants around the metro. Make sure to bookmark and visit my website Chuck Eats KC, where I post full restaurant reviews and where I maintain guides and directories.

I’m currently working on the following new features on the website:

  • A comprehensive directory of Kansas City area restaurants
  • A guide to 2022 farmer’s markets around the metro
  • Guides to restaurants in neighborhoods and specific cities
  • New reviews!

If you upgrade to the subscriber version of this newsletter, you get two monthly exclusive newsletters, reviews before they are published, and special bonus content.

From the March 2022 Paid Newsletters

Subscribers to the newsletter got this original content this month:

  • What is Kansas City’s Signature Dish
  • What is Kansas City’s Signature Food (After Barbecue)
  • An interview with a former Tippin’s pie-cutter
  • First reviews of Fric & Frac and Martin City Coffee

March 2022 Poll: Which Restaurant Do You Miss?

For my first monthly website poll, I asked readers which restaurant they missed from a list of popular bygone restaurants. You can still cast a vote here. Below are the current standings as of publication time of this newsletter.

Our April poll will ask “What is your favorite Kansas City area coffee house?”

My third installment of my series on bygone restaurants is published today! In this issue, we re-visit Eddy’s Loaf ‘N Stein, Gomer’s Chicken, Italian Gardens, Mrs. Peters Chicken Dinners, Waid’s, and more.

Moving to Paid Subscriptions

This month, the Chuck Eats KC newsletter is moving to paid subscriptions. If you subscribed to the newsletter prior to February, you will now have a free or comp subscription indefinitely. You are welcome to switch to a paid subscription to support this project, but that isn’t required. The goal is for this newsletter to be published at least twice monthly, with the possibility of more frequent issues. There will also be a monthly round-up newsletter for subscribers to the free tier.

Monthly subscriptions are $5/month.

Missed Connections: Do You Remember This Restaurant?

I regularly get emails about bygone restaurants. Sometimes, the memory of the food is good, but the name of the restaurant has been forgotten by the person. Can you help out with these memories?

Restaurant name: Mexican on Holmes south.
What do you remember about the restaurant?

THEY had a hot Spanish tater. Huge baked POTATO with chunks of pork in sauce surrounded by cheese tomato and LETTUCE. Looking for recipe.

Support Us Via Ko-Fi

You can support this project on Ko-Fi. We are developing a podcast, scheduled to debut in January 2022, so any help is appreciated. This is an independent review project. We take nothing in exchange from local restaurants, so everything comes out of our own pockets.

Please support this project with a donation via Ko-Fi.
